A 63-year-woman from Vernon was airlifted to hospital Tuesday afternoon after a basketball-sized rock crashed through her windshield on the Coquihalla Highway.
The Fraser Valley Traffic Services were called to the accident approximately 25 km north of Hope at around 1 p.m.
What was initially reported as a rock coming down off of an embankment turned out to be a rock on the roadway that was flung up by a logging truck.
“She was very lucky considering the rock went right through the windshield and came to rest in the back seat,” said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. “We have seen this before where the vehicle occupant is not so lucky.”
The Coquihalla Highway was closed in both directions while emergency crews worked to have the woman airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Her female passenger was uninjured in the accident.
