Woman taken off bus into custody

Rider caught carrying a replica submachine gun in backpack

The weekday commute got interesting for some transit riders last week.

On March 21 at 4:30 p.m. Oak Bay Police received a call from the Victoria Police advising them a B.C. Transit bus heading east on Fort Street toward Oak Bay had a female passenger on board who possibly had a gun.

Oak Bay and Victoria police stopped the bus on Cadboro Bay Road and took a 30 year old “bewildered” Oak Bay resident into custody.

Police officers asked her if she had a gun with her and she told them she had her son’s toy gun in her backpack.

Police say that inside the backpack was a replica of an Uzi submachine gun.

Police discovered the woman has a court order that includes a condition which bans her from possessing any firearms or firearm imitations.

As a result of the incident she was charged for breaching the court order.
