Health care workers — represented by the Hospital Employees’ Union — voted 87 per cent in favour of ratifying a three-year contract with H&H Total Care Services Inc., the operator of The Hamlets at Penticton, a long-term care and assisted living facility on Duncan Avenue.
Thursday’s vote saves the jobs of 60 care aides, assisted living workers and recreation aides, who had been given lay-off notices on June 1. Their last day of work would have been Aug. 31.
The new contract — which covers about 120 union members, including nurses, support workers and the classifications targeted for contracting out — includes modest wage increases, and a “no contracting out” provision over the term of the collective agreement.
