Would-be thief targets coffee shop lap top

VicPD issues warning after iPad swiped, computer targeted in pair of coffee shop incidents

VicPD are suggesting coffee shop dwellers to protect their valuables and electronic devices.

Shortly after 7 a.m. today (July 11) a man tried to steal a customer’s laptop while she was picking up her drink order at a Yates Street coffee shop. The customer wrestled the bag from the would-be thief who then fled.

Armed with detailed descriptions from witnesses, police arrested a suspect later this morning. The 23-year-old man is a known offender also wanted on outstanding warrants.

It was the second time in two days electronics were targetted in coffee shops. Monday an iPad was stolen from a Government Street coffee shop.

“Thieves prey on distracted customers, and unattended valuables, and police remind patrons to be more aware of their surroundings,” said Const. Mike Russell in a statement.
