Staff of YMCA WorkBC are inviting the community to celebrate the employment program’s fourth anniversary April 6 at their Summerland and Penticton offices.
Celebrations include a vision board activity at 1 p.m. and a cake cutting at 3 p.m. at both Penticton and Summerland locations. As well, there will be a free barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Penticton office.
The time has flown by for YMCA WorkBC senior manager Robert Bryce.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since the YMCA WorkBC Employment Services Centeres opened locations in Penticton, Summerland and Princeton,” Bryce said.
The services centres provide free assistance to individuals that are looking for work. A wide variety of services are offered including access to training, employability workshops, self-employment support, employer wage subsidy to supplement training costs and job start supports such as interview clothes or work boots for those who can’t afford it. Access to services is dependent on the inure situation of each individual client.
“Over the past four years, we have been able to assist thousands of clients in achieving their employment goals, and that’s really rewarding,” Bryce said. “It is critical for job seekers accessing our services to gain a solid understanding of South Okanagan labour market trends and the needs of local employers.”
YMCA WorkBC centres offer two types of services to job seekers. For more independent job seekers, the self-serve area is equipped with computers, fax, photocopier, job boards, labour market information and is staffed by a dedicated and knowledgeable team of resource area facilitators. Should more individualized assistance be required, they can discuss options with one of our professional employment advisors.
YMCA WorkBC centres are operated in partnership with Bowman Employment Services, Community Futures Okanagan Similkameen, Partners in Resources, South Okanagan Women in Need Society, the Princeton and District Community Skills Centre and the Okanagan Training and Development Council, funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of B.C.
