City of Parksville officials say they are excited to be part of the Canada 150 Mosaic project to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
To recognize this significant birthday, 150 community murals will be created in all provinces and territories which, when united, will form one gigantic mural mosaic with a railway theme to connect all of Canada.
The City of Parksville and The NEWS are looking for members of the community — any skill level, any age — to paint 400 tiles. Painting days will be Friday, August 5 or Saturday,
August 6 in the Community Park and all supplies are provided. Tiles may be purchased for $20 from the City of Parksville and the McMillan Arts Centre.
Are you related to a Father of Confederation? Please let the city know if you are, and are able to take part in the creation of the mosaic. Contact Deb Tardiff (250-954-3073).
Participants will be asked to paint an individual tile representing their community from their own creative perspective, but you don’t have to be an artist to take part. Each tile painting will become a piece of a much bigger story when all 150 community murals are virtually connected to form one gigantic railway-themed mural mosaic connecting the country from coast to coast. The mural will be permanently installed in the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre. Those who purchase the tiles will also receive a poster of the completed mural.
