The Terrace RCMP have responded to approximately 92 calls for service from January 18, 8 AM till January 21, 8 AM. During the same time period there were 22 people lodged in Terrace Cells. Of these people 16 were lodged for public intoxication.
Here are some of the calls responded to:
•On January 18 at 9:30 AM a brown 2004 GMC Sierra lost control when it hit black ice on Hwy 16 approximately 20 km west of Terrace. The truck hit the ditch and flipped sustaining substantial damage. The passenger was transported to Mills Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
•A man lost his cell phone. He called the cell phone and the person who answered it said that they would return it to him. It has not been returned and has been used to make numerous calls.
•An intoxicated 28 yr old man attended to the RCMP detachment because he had missed his bus. The man was irrational, confused, and appeared to be under the influence of a drug. Police arrested the man for public intoxication. The man resisted arrest and attempted to spit on the police. A spit hood was fitted onto the man. His excess clothing had to be cut off to facilitate its removal for incarceration.
•Domestic disturbance. A man and woman obtained the services of a babysitter so that they could spend the day consuming alcohol in an alley behind one of the downtown hotels. The woman passed out and when the man attempted to wake her up she took offence and a yelling match ensued. The man locked himself into a bathroom and made suicidal comments. The man would not cooperate with police in opening the door. Police had to force the door open and arrested the man for mischief. Police spoke with the woman who was moderately intoxicated. She agreed to go home and call it a night. The children remained in the care of the babysitter.
•A man and woman engaging in an indecent act in the laundry room of the Keystone Apartments on Scott Ave. Police attended and observed same. A 25 yr old man was spoken with. A 17 yr old girl was arrested for public intoxication.
•Group of intoxicated youth drinking, breaking bottles, and causing general mayhem in an alleyway south of Park Ave. Members attended and they scattered. Police arrested a 19 yr old man, a 14 yr old girl, and a 15 yr old boy for public intoxication.
•Break and enter to the Real Canadian Wholesale gas bar on January 19 at 1:30 AM. The front door was smashed. A Caucasian man with a square jaw wearing a fur trimmed winter parka was observed stealing a handful of Bic lighters on video surveillance. Under investigation.
•A man barged into a residence on Scott Ave and began yelling at everyone. Police observed intoxicated people in the street upon arrival at the residence. The 18 yr old man who was accused of barging into the party stated that he was jumped by unknown persons for unknown reasons and beaten up. He was transported to Mills Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The 47 yr old principal renter suffered a black eye and was not cooperative with police.
•An intoxicated man attempted to enter an apartment not belonging to him on Scott Ave. Police arrested a 22 yr old man for public intoxication.
•Domestic disturbance. Police observed signs of a physical altercation but neither person was cooperative with police. Police arrested a 20 yr old man for assault.
•A man was sleeping in a residence on Haugland Ave when he was woken and beaten up by two men known to him. The man was treated for minor injuries at Mills Memorial Hospital. Under investigation.
•Man passed out on the corner of Straume Ave / Munroe St. Police found the man sleeping in the middle of the southbound lane of Munroe St. The 25 yr old man was arrested for public intoxication.
•Loud music at 4:30 AM from a residence on Haugland Ave. Police found a man sleeping in a blue 2007 Mazda with the music turned up loud. The man was intoxicated and confused. Police seized the keys and the man went into the residence to sleep it off.
•A man reported that his girlfriend was inside of an apartment on Kalum St with anther man and kept calling him and asking to be picked up and taken home. Police attended to the residence with the man and spoke with the woman who was under the influence of a drug. The 22 yr old woman was arrested for breach.
•During the night of January 19/20th a Chrysler Seabreeze had its driver’s side window broken with a rock and the contents of the vehicle went through while it was parked in a parking lot in the Health Services parking lot on Kalum St.
•A woman under the influence of a drug attended the Mills Memorial Hospital for medical treatment and was now refusing to leave. Police found the 39 yr old woman sleeping on a cot in the hospital. She was relatively sober. She was transported to her lodgings.
•Two shoplifters at Safeway on two separate occurrences.
•Domestic disturbance. A couple and another man partying. The husband left to get more beer. When he returned he found his wife sitting in bed with the other man. A name calling yelling match started. Police separated everyone. No offence committed.
•Theft from Skeena Liquor Store on Greig Ave. A man stole two bottles of liquor on two separate occasions in the past two hours. Police conducted patrols and arrested a 25 yr old man matching the appearance of the man in the surveillance video. The man lied to police about his name. Charges of theft and obstruction are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
•Two calls received of a man going door to door on Haugland Ave begging for food and money. Police located an intoxicated 48 yr old man in the area and arrested him for mischief.
•A man did a dine and dash at Denny’s on Hwy 16. The 25 yr old man was found and arrested on another matter. Charges are not being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
