Dawn Potvin, It Dawned on Me
Is it just me, or are things slowing down a little bit in Houston?
Are we waiting for the big summer rush? One can’t help but notice how quiet the mall is lately — I mean, more than usual.
I walked from one end of the mall to the other the other day and I can honestly say that I saw less than five shoppers.
In total. I find our mall a bit depressing, it sure would be nice to see the existing businesses with some company, I mean look at the shop space outside by the Fields — has there ever been anything in there?
Why wouldn’t the powers that be fill up the mall first before building that unbelievable waste of space?
I have complained about this before, and still am no closer to a solution.
I was peeved when the drug store moved out, leaving an even bigger hole in our mall.
A shopping mall is supposed to be a one stop shopping, meet up with the friends, spend the day canoodling kind of place.
It is my opinion that our mall is a small cry from that, to put it mildly.
Granted, you can buy awesome quality clothes in our mall, electronics, booze, lottery tickets and have lunch while going to get a haircut, with the kind of personable service that I think has been understated and overlooked for a long time.
There are so many spaces in between that need to be filled — figuratively and literally.
I have heard rumours about the astronomical amount that is charged for rent in that building, which would be discouraging to say the least for a new business anyhow.
I think that extra kudos should be doled out to the existing businesses that have toughed it out over the years and stayed in our mall — glory be to all of you, and thank you for your perseverance.
Really.
Without you, that entire mall would consist entirely of a post office.
All I can say is hang in there, mall store owners and shoppers and keep going — that is truly all we can do.
