Beefs and Bouquets Jan. 29

NANAIMO – Beefs and Bouquets for the week of Jan. 29.

BOUQUET To ‘Anna’ for making so many children happy by volunteering for the ‘Frozen’ event. We are very proud of you.

BEEF To the person who beefed about the hazmat team cleaning up a meth house: the correct response is “thank you.”

BOUQUET To Nanaimo Community Dental, an independent dentistry that is here to help out the folks that can’t afford dental care.

BEEF To the seemingly obnoxious letter to the editor writer who boasts about being a left-winger – a party that loses in most elections – and for very good reasons.

BOUQUET To Stephanie at Trojan for her kindness in a sad time for me over my car accident. It’s good there are people like you in this world.

BEEF To the people who decorated a tree in the green space in the centre of the Nanaimo Parkway: your decorations are now an eyesore, you should be fined for littering.

BOUQUET To Sandy from Sandy’s Ukrainian Kitchen. Without her heart, smile, kindness and hard work we would have nothing but empty bellies.

BEEF To the city for trying to blackmail the Empire Days Society into changing its name. So much for freedom of expression. Ils ne sont pas Charlie.

BOUQUET To Maureen, Richard and staff at CODE dental. Your dedicated volunteer hours at the friendly walk-in dental office that helps many individuals in need of dental care is so appreciated. It is humbling to know that individuals like you are so eager to help.

BEEF To all the cars waiting at red lights who leave long gaps behind the car ahead. Move up and let more people get into the left-hand turn lane so they can go instead of having to wait for the next one. Some of us need to get to appointments.

BOUQUET To the staff at Kiwanis Lodge for the care of our father over the past couple of years.  Especially to Jennifer and the fourth floor staff for ensuring he stayed safe and comfortable. We know how hard it was to keep that very determined man from going off on his London Drugs trips.

BEEF To city council for withholding funds for Empire Days, a well-attended event, because of the society’s name. Are any other ethnic, historical or cultural celebrations supported? Unless an event is multicultural it’s exclusive of others and their feelings.

BOUQUET To Tyler Peters of Sure Shot Contracting and his crew on an outstanding job replacing my roof. Not only does my roof look great, but his expertise in roofing is outstanding and after cleanup, did not even know he had ripped off an old shake roof.

BEEF To the excavating company who did the worst job. Excavating, drainage and cement work being repaired or redone.

BOUQUET To Bully’s Excavating who came to my rescue repairing a bad excavating job. Also to Carmon Home Renovations for giving a big hand helping to repair it.

BEEF To the oral surgeon’s office that asked me to come in 30 minutes earlier than scheduled only to make me wait a full hour after the new time to see the surgeon. I didn’t get even a hint of an apology.

BOUQUET To all the wonderful walkers, dog walkers and bike riders on the E&N Trail who understand a puppy needs socialization to become a great dog. A note to the very few negative people: if you don’t like dogs you should take your walk in the mall.

BEEF To the person who does not believe in free speech and would rather tear up our petitions to Save Linley Valley Trail West and then scatter the pieces along the park trail.

BOUQUET To Schnitzer Recycling for customer appreciation day when they had a catering truck on site. It’s nice to be appreciated in this day and age.

BEEF To the beefer about their children having to view men in hazmat suits clearing out a meth house. Are you suggesting they risk their health and well being?

BOUQUET To Sarah from Kiyo Salon for the haircut she gave me. I love it.

BEEF To the cloth and thread store for charing a higher price for a membership fee because one cannot afford a computer or e-mail.

BOUQUET To all the supporters of Gord Fuller. Nice to see many members of the community coming together in his support at his time of need. He has done so much for the community, thoughts and prayers to this wonderful man in his recovery.

BEEF To dog owners in parks who pick up their pet’s poop in biodegradable doggy doo bags and then leave the bags beside park trails or toss them into the trees. The whole idea of the bags is to use them to pack pet waste out of the park.

BOUQUET To Laird Wheaton Chevrolet Cadillac for outstanding service, in particular the attention and efficiency displayed by Ross Barnard and Gregg Gilbert, who spared no effort and time to conclude this deal.

BEEF To the couple with their little boy who thought it was cool to set off fire crackers at the waterfall by the duck pond in Bowen Park. My little girl was having a great time till this and all the ducks flew off scaring her and of course the ducks.

BOUQUET To staff at Starbucks at Terminal Park. Always friendly, relaxed and helpful – makes dropping by for a coffee such a pleasant part of the day.

BEEF To our neighbour in the Diver’s Lake area. You must not have much of a life if all you have to do is follow us around to see where we take our garbage. That’s something a teenager would do – you’re almost 70.

BOUQUET To the guys in the computer department at London Drugs in Nanaimo North Town Centre. Your patience and help with my tablet went above and beyond. I’ll be back when my laptop dies.

BEEF To the rising cost of food. I’ve seen the cost of coffee increase by $2 recently. When will my wages follow suit?

BEEF To all my Facebook friends who didn’t respond to my shared request for Beefs and Bouquets submissions to the News Bulletin.
