I’m all about good food and dancing. And at the Business Excellence Awards on Oct. 22, I was not disappointed.
The food was excellent, and the award ceremony was heartfelt and entertaining.
Careful detail was put into the planning and organization of this event thanks to the staff at the Houston chamber.
The tables were set elegantly, and the seating was well thought out so no matter which way you turned, you were catching up with an old friend, or sharing laughs with a stranger.
Above all, it was special to witness the way everyone at the hall cheered as they watched their peers and fellow community members receive awards.
To me, the most memorable was the way the hall echoed like thunder as people clapped and whistled, honouring Sanj Sadhir receiving Business Person of the Year. And the sincerity felt by Constable Ryan Hobbs, a very new member to Houston, as he thanked the community for receiving Young Citizen of the Year.
There were so many incredible people and businesses recognized that night for their hard work and contribution to Houston. To be a part of it was an honour all its own.
For a community that has suffered so much, that is still in the depths of recovery, nothing brings people together quite like an event that shows appreciation for its residents.
Dancing helps too.
It was easy to spot the people that were itching to dance once the music started, I was one of them.
We were like chickens bobbing our heads up and down searching for the feed. It didn’t us long to cluck together on the dance floor.
Let me tell you, Houstoneers know how to dance!
A great set list of music brought out a variety of dance moves and people to the floor. From air guitars to fancy foot work, and salsa to break dancing. We even had an officer dancing!
On behalf of Houston Today and Black Press I would like to congratulate all the nominees and thank the Houston chamber and the sponsors on the success of such a well collaborated event of bringing Houston together.
