I am impressed that Claire Trevena is still working on our behalf to encourage the use of current hospital once the new one is built, for our needs.
She wrote to the Minister of Health, “And we have very many needs. We desperately need hospice beds in Campbell River, we will always like need extra space for seniors, there are short term needs which can be met. My suggestion is…that we retain part of our existing hospital for these and other services.”
Some people say that politicians can only react to needs staring them in the face, and do not tend to plan for the future unless it is politically expedient.
Well, Claire is thinking ahead, predicting that demographic change will necessitate more than the current plan for the new hospital is slated to deliver.
She believes that our community will grow. If people appreciate her perspective, and I have heard others say that they agree with her, why as a community are we not fighting with her?
Or are we, and I have missed the articles, letters of support, marches on the construction site.
We elected Claire again this year, and she continues to try her best for us. Let’s support her efforts.
