Three Abbotsford athletes claimed medals at the 2015 Canadian Judo Nationals in Quebec earlier this month.
In the U-16 under-48 kilogram weight class, Launa Hinton claimed silver while teammate Karissa Comeau claimed bronze. The two athletes trained against one another, and instructor Tokue Suda said their results are a testament to a year spent battling one another.
“They encouraged each other and they fight hard,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the U-18 under-60 kilogram weight class, Leo Goldberg won a bronze medal.
Goldberg was one of the smallest competitors in his class, but that didn’t stop him, Suda said.
“He’s got a big heart,” he added. “He’s a machine.”
A total of 10 Abbotsford Judo Club athletes competed at the event. Four – Goldberg, Simren Brar, Mitchell Wolfe, and Isabelle Harris – will compete at the Western Canada Summer Games in Alberta, in August.
