The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are all but out of the playoffs with six games to go but the team has a lot of pride left to show.
The Bulldogs play a three-game set this weekend.
They first square off against the Clippers in Nanaimo on Friday night. The Bulldogs’ last game against them was a 7-2 loss on Feb. 10.
On Saturday at the AV Multiplex, they make a homestand against the Victoria Grizzlies, who they beat 10-3 on Feb. 11.
And on Sunday, the Bulldogs travel to Langley to play the Rivermen, who they beat 4-3 in overtime at the Langley Events Centre on Feb. 26.
Forward Josh Mitchell is the Bulldog’s leading scorer with 10 goals and 41 assists for 51 points. Defenseman Walker Hyland is second in scoring with 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points.
Forward Trent Dorais has 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. But at 111 penalty minutes he leads the team in jam.
At 42 points, the Bulldogs have 19 wins, 31 losses, two overtime losses and two ties.
Despite their effort the team sits in sixth place in the Coastal Conference. This year only the top four teams make the playoffs in each conference.
Their remaining games consist of two tilts each against Nanaimo and Langley, as well as games against Victoria and Cowichan. Their last game is on Sunday, March 11.
Some game festivities are happening as well.
The Bulldogs and Boston Pizza are tag teaming to host a post game rock night at BP after their game against Victoria on Saturday, March 3. The event starts at 9:30 p.m.
Attendees can enter a draw to win two tickets to game one-round one of the Canucks playoffs 2012.
But the cat’s pajamas of events is happening at the team’s second-to- last home game of the season against Cowichan.
The theme for the game is ‘Pack the Plex’, an initiative that is meant to pack the AV Multiplex to the rafters with fans.
‘Pack the Plex’ will see the Bulldogs host minor league hockey coaches and players, and School District 70 ball hockey teams.
Ticket prices for the event will be a flat $7 for adults, seniors and students.
