Trevor Alcorn’s fourth-inning solo home run broke a 3-3 tie and was the difference as Langley defeated Valleyfield 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Langley, the B.C. champion, improved to 3-1 while Valleyfield, the Quebec champs, fell to 2-2 at the Canadian Little League baseball championships at North Vancouver’s Chris Zuehlke Memorial Stadium.
Langley struck for three runs in the top of the first inning — Yi-An Pan had a two-run double, which was followed by Connor McCreath’s RBI single — but Valleyfield scored two in the bottom half and one more in the second inning.
But following those runs, the trio of Nick Atkinson, Colby Ring and Yi-An Pan combined to allow no hits or walks over the final four innings.
Langley closes the round robin on Wednesday when they face the Prairies champions from Rocky Mountain (Alberta).
They are guaranteed a spot in Friday’s semifinals, with the championship final scheduled for Saturday.
The winner represents Canada at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
