A Nanaimo hockey player helped his B.C. team win at a prestigious Alberta tournament.
Ten-year-old Jesse Heslop was part of the B.C. Junior Canucks team that won the Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament at West Edmonton Mall last month.
The Canucks team defeated Minnesota 5-1 in the championship game after beating the Boston Junior Bruins in the semis and winning all six of their round-robin games.
Heslop scored 10 points over the eight games. He was one of just two Island players on the team and had to get through a lengthy tryout process that started last summer.
The Junior Canucks also won gold at both the B.C. Spring Classic tournament in Coquitlam and the North American Hockey Classic in Winnipeg.
