The next few weeks will be busy in Rossland as snow sports make their way to the town.
This past weekend, the Red Mountain Racers hosted the FIS (International Ski Federation) Miele Cup race.
The race is an international sanctioned event which features racers from the local Red Mountain Racers as well as all over Canada and the U.S. There were even a few entries from Spain, Italy and Eritrea.
About 200 racers came out to compete in the slalom and giant slalom races set up on Back Trail and Face of Red. Each day athletes performed two races in one of the disciplines.

The races were from Saturday to Tuesday, Feb. 25 – 28.
This weekend, there are two events going on.
One is the the BC Snowboard Provincial Series Snowboard Cross, which includes a ski cross portion.
There are multiple categories to compete in and FIS points are up for grabs in the snowboard portion. There is also opportunity to qualify for the Canada Snowboard Nationals. Categories range from 14 and under all the way up to masters class, and there’s even a open category for those who just want to give the sport a try.

Cost for entrants is $50 and runs Saturday, March 3.
Also going on this weekend, is the 28th annual Black Jack Loppet Race and Kootenay Cup #5 at Black Jack Ski Club.
The events include free technique mass start and interval races. The free technique is on Saturday, March 3 and the classic interval on Sunday. Categories for the two events range in age group from under five to over 70 years and entry fees depend on age category and skill.
