Members of the Langley Mustangs and Trinity Western Spartans were both heavily honoured over the weekend by B.C. Athletics at the organization’s awards banquet.
It was held on Saturday night.
For the Mustangs track and field club, Georgia Ellenwood was named the province’s top junior female athlete while Nicholas Colyn was named top youth athlete and Braedon Dolfo won the para-athletics top male athlete award.
Ellenwood is one of Canada’s top junior heptathletes who is currently on scholarship to the University of Wisconsin.
Colyn competes in the steeplechase and is a student at Langley Christian.
Dolfo is a visually-impaired runner who is working towards representing Canada once again at the Paralympics.
The visually-impaired runner won his award for the fifth straight year.
And a fourth member of the Mustangs, coach Kevin Harrison, was given a coaching excellence award at the junior development level.
Other Mustangs recognized included Brittni Wolczyk (javelin) as the top youth female athlete, and Tanika Dolfo (hammer throw), Megan Champoux,(hurdles) Hannah Morrison (hurdles) and Lauryn Cheung (pole vault) in the midget girls age group.
Langley’s Sue Kydd was the winner of the Jane Swan Award for her outstanding volunteerism at the junior development level.
And the Trinity Western Spartans had four members recognized for the achievements.
Alison Jackson was named the top senior female cross-country runner while Regan Yee was the top junior female cross-country runner.
And Marita De Schiffart was named the junior female road runner of the year and Jessye Brockway was the top para-athletics female athlete of the year.
