B.C. silver for Whalers midget lacrosse squad

Colwood-based Midget C squad battles Vanderhoof in final

The boys from Vanderhoof were a power that was tough to tame, as the Juan de Fuca Whalers Midget C lacrosse team found out at the Lacrosse B.C. provincial championships Sunday in Prince George.

The northern squad was given its closest game of the tournament by the Whalers in the gold medal game, however, winning 9-2 to leave the Colwood club with the silver.

Juan de Fuca downed Williams Lake 11-0 and Fort St. John 15-4, while losing 12-2 to Vanderhoof in round robin play.

Brandon Smart won the Warrior Fair Play award for the Whalers, while Matthew Constantine earned Juan de Fuca’s all-star team nomination.

Midget A Whalers in tough in P.G.

Juan de Fuca’s Midget Whalers got off to a rough start in the A1 draw at Prince George, dropping their first two games by big scores to eventual champion Coquitlam and always-tough Ridge Meadows.

But the Whalers rebounded for an 8-2 win over Saanich, then lost a pair of close games, 6-3 to silver medal winner New Westminster and 6-5 to Langley, who beat Ridge Meadows for the bronze. The 1-4 record left Juan de Fuca out on the outside come playoff time.

The Whalers’ Brayden Brown was named Warrior Fair Play award winner for his team and teammate Riley Condon was named to the tournament all-star team.
