Back-to-back shutouts for Junior Blaze

Pair of pitching gems from Colby Ring and Brett Jackson power Langley to weekend victories

The Langley Junior Blaze shook off their first loss by tossing a pair of shutout victories.

The U16 baseball squad hosted the Okanagan Athletics on Saturday at McLeod Park, prevailing 1-0 and 7-0 to improve to 6-1, which puts them in top spot in the B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League.

Colby Ring earned the win in game one, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits and one walk in the complete game victory.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Mack Berry led off with a triple and two batters later, Terrell Rogers scored him with an RBI single.

And in game two, Brett Jackson picked up where Ring left off, scattering four hits while striking out seven over seven innings.

The Langley offence also found its game as they scored runs in each of the first five innings to win 7-0.

Rogers and Berry did the bulk of the damage as Rogers had three doubles and a pair of RBIs while Berry hit two doubles and also drove in a pair of runs. Justin Lanigan had the team’s other RBI while Daniel Martin scored a pair of runs.

Next up for Langley is a doubleheader on Sunday against the North Delta Junior Blue Jays.
