Baseball defence clinic coming up

Minor-league baseball player Jordan Lennerton is holding an Advanced Defence Baseball Clinic this coming weekend (Feb. 6-7).

Some baseball players prefer to just swing the bat during the off-season, but there’s more they can do to hone their game.

With that in mind, minor-league player Jordan Lennerton is holding an Advanced Defence Baseball Clinic this coming weekend (Feb. 6-7).

“As everybody knows, defence wins championships,” said Lennerton, who plays for the Atlanta Braves’ AAA affiliate, the Gwinnett Braves, in Lawrenceville, Ga.

His two-day clinic, to be held at McGirr Elementary School field, is for ages 14-18 and meant for advanced players.

“I want to skip the part where you teach the kids how to play catch; I want them to be able to play catch on their own and have a good base already,” said Lennerton.

He and his assistant coach will introduce players to infield drills that Lennerton has honed during his nine years of professional baseball experience.

“Now’s the time to learn, because then you still have a month or two months before the season to practise these skills that you learn,” he said.

The camp will be held from 10 a.m.-noon both days. Cost to participate is $115. For information, please call 250-713-8211.
