Led by Chilliwack native Kayli Sartori, the University of the Fraser Valley women’s basketball team moved up to No. 3 in the latest Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) rankings released Tuesday.
The Cascades, who opened at No. 4 in the national poll, began the regular season with dominant home-court wins over Lethbridge (70-32) and Calgary (60-36) last weekend.
They benefitted from the Alberta Pandas’ surprising loss at Thompson Rivers University on Saturday, leapfrogging the former No. 2 squad in the new rankings while picking up 10 first-place votes.
The St. Mary’s Huskies (Nova Scotia) top the poll.
The Windsor Lancers are second and UFV is next.
Canada West teams hold down spots four through six, with the University of Alberta followed by the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars.
The UFV women travel to Vancouver Island this weekend to face the University of Victoria Vikes on Friday and Saturday.
