The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are out of the BC Hockey League playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
The Bulldogs have struggled in their last seven games, scoring just three goals since Feb. 7 and getting shut out four times—including twice against Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
The Bulldogs were in a race with Nanaimo Clippers for the fourth playoff spot in the Island Division until last weekend, when Salmon Arm shut them out 4–0 on the road.
They lost 4–1 to Vernon Vipers and 3–0 to Coquitlam Express last Sunday to finish off their last long road trip of the 2016–17 season.
The Bulldogs have two more games, this Friday in Cowichan against the Capitals and the final home game of the year on Saturday, Feb. 25 when Powell River Kings come to Weyerhaeuser Arena. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
ICE CHIPS…Literacy Alberni is hosting its Raise-A-Reader RibFest fundraiser at the arena prior to the hockey game. Tickets are $10 to taste ribs made by several local cooks, starting at 5:30 p.m. Ribs, raffles, hotdogs, prizes and music by Alberni Teens Can Rock.
