BCHL asks fans to vote on all-time team

The BCHL is looking for fan input in helping name their top 50 players.

Brett Hull or Ray Ferraro? Cliff Ronning or Mark Recchi? Ryan Walter or Andy Moog? Brendan Morrison or Paul Kariya?

Those are among the many tough choices hockey fans are being asked to make.

In honour of the B.C. Hockey League’s 50th anniversary, the league is looking for fan input in helping them name their all-time top 50 players.

“Fans will be surprised at just how many names they’ll recognize from throughout our history,” said BCHL communications director Brent Mutis.

“There are lots of players who had fantastic junior A careers and others who went on to long NHL careers.”

Fans are invited to visit www.bchl.ca where they will select the top three players for each decade.

There are 133 players listed, including former Surrey Eagles Shane Kuss, Scott Gomez, Jakub Ficenec, Joe Vandermeer, Peter Wishloff, John McNabb – all of whom suited up in the 1990s – and Brandon Wong, who played in South Surrey from 2003-05.

White Rock native Jason Garrison, who played for the Nanaimo Clippers, Surrey native Bill Muckalt and Cloverdale’s Robb Gordon are also among the nominees.

The top 50 will be revealed during the BCHL’s Celebration Weekend on Nov. 25 and 26 at each team’s arena.
