The B.C. Hockey League team put an exclamation point on their weekend the next night at The Q Centre by squeezing out an exciting 8-7 overtime win against the Merritt Centennials.
Garrett Forster converted a Meirs Moore pass 3:31 into the first overtime for his second goal of the game, to cap a wild and woolly contest that saw the lead change twice and the teams trade goals back and forth numerous times.
Victoria led 3-2 after one period but trailed 4-3 after two.
Their team down 6-5 in the third, the Grizzlies’ Zachary Dixon and Dane Gibson scored 1:58 apart to make it 7-6 with less than five minutes to play.
Gavin Gould beat Victoria goalie Michael Stiliadis with nine seconds to force overtime.
Newly renamed head coach Craig Didmon got his first win of the season Friday, as the Grizzlies avenged the previous week’s 5-2 home loss.
Forster, for his efforts over the weekend – three goals and two assists in the two games – was named the BCHL’s player of the week.
