The Columbia Bible College men’s basketball team dropped a hard-fought decision in their home opener against the Camosun Chargers last Friday.
The two teams were tied 28-28 at halftime, but the visitors from Victoria pulled away down the stretch for a 66-57 win. Bearcats forward Tim Vaandrager had a huge performance in the loss, notching 18 points and 11 rebounds, while point guard Kevin Ford matched him for team-high scoring honours with 18 points.
On Saturday, the CBC men fell 86-55 to the Vancouver Island University Mariners. Ford had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but the Bearcats shot just 25 per cent from the floor.
The CBC women lost 94-35 to Camosun and 113-47 to VIU. Rookie forward Melissa Spring had a solid performance against Camosun with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Janelle Taekema paced the offence with 12 points against the Mariners.
The CBC basketball teams hit the road to face the Kwantlen Eagles on Friday and the Douglas Royals on Saturday.
