Bears falter in final

North Langley offence finds scoring touch in fourth quarter, but come up short in VCFL championship game

The North Langley Bears offence found its rhythm in the fourth quarter, scoring on two of its three possessions, but that was not enough as the junior bantam team lost in the Valley Community Football League championship game.

The Bears finished the season 8-3 after losing to the undefeated Chilliwack Giants Blue on Saturday in Chilliwack.

The game was a hard-hitting affair as both defences had strong games.

Mathieu Gale came up with an interception and a fumble recovery while Jacob Deibert also had a fumble recovery.

Seth Mangroo also twice came up with touchdown-saving tackles.

Dallas Pattenden, Connor Bernardin and Kaleb Reemeyer also had big stops while Caleb Faust had a huge hit to force a dropped pass on a convert attempt.

Leid Wallan and Jacob Evans each knocked down Chilliwack passes.

On offence, the Bears found some rhythm in the fourth quarter. Dallas Pattenden capped of one drive with a major while on another, quarterback Jaxon Stebbings — after moving the ball through the air with passes to Callum Middleton, Reemeyer and then Grayson Gehrer — called his own number, outracing the Giants to the corner of the end zone.
