Vikes women golfers crack tourney top 10 in Colorado

The University of Victoria Vikes women’s golf team opened their 2014-15 season with a ninth-place finish at the Wolf Pack Invitational, co-hosted in Pueblo, Colo. by California State University-Pueblo and Wayland Baptist University.

The Vikes’ two-day total was 673 in the 15-team event.

Belmont grad Cari Chow, a fourth-year Vikes golfer, wound up 39th in individual play, shooting 171 (82-89).

Rookie Brianna Carrels led the Vikes with a 21st-place finish at 164 (84-80).

Other Vikes’ scores for the tournament included Michaela Abey (81-86-167, tie 27th), Shannon Raina (92-85-177, tie 49th) and Laura Ferreira (87-93-180, 54th place).

The team next heads to Portland, Ore. on Oct.5 for the Cavalier Classic.
