Belmont volleyballers face new challenges

Langford-based athletes winding up school season this month

On the heels of a powerful performance at a high school beach volleyball tournament in Parksville this month, several Belmont secondary athletes have been asked to represent more than just their local school.

Olivia Godek and Hannah May were selected to represent the Island at the B.C. Summer Games in beach volleyball.Taylee Pomponio and Gracie May have been chosen to represent the Island at the Summer Games in indoor volleyball.

Plus, Savannah Purdy and Miranda Cyr were selected to represent Vancouver Island for indoor volleyball at the Baden Cup, and possibly Team B.C. at the upcoming National Challenge Cup.

Competing in the Tier 2 division at the same tournament in Parksville earlier this month, Devon Woolley and Atessa Flammand  finished third.

Golfers crack top 10 … Belmont’s Island and city champion boys golf team was in the running for the B.C. High School Championships crown last week, but wound up seventh overall.

Team members Ethan Ko, Kieran Cardinal, Dylan Green, Bryce Tickner, Kyle Leiman posted their fourth top-10 finish of the season, having placed fourth at the Victoria Police Tournament. All players but Ko graduate this year.
