Chilliwack defenceman Colin Bernard is the latest Chief to secure an NCAA scholarship.
The blueliner confirmed on Twitter Thursday morning that he’s committed to the Sacred Heart Pioneers, a team that plays in the Atlantic Hockey Conference.
The good news for Chilliwack fans is that Bernard will play another year in the BCHL before heading to college, sticking around for the 2017-18 season.
The 19 year old Connecticut native has been a big-time contributor for this year’s team, chipping in at both ends of the rink. Bernard has been a steady presence defensively and has produced seven goals and 31 points in 55 games.
He is the second Chief to commit to Sacred Heart in recent years. Spencer Graboski is finishing up his fourth season with the Pioneers. His team has a 9-14-3 record in conference play this year and a 11-16-5 record overall.
Bernard is the second Chilliwack skater to announce an NCAA commitment this week. Jake Smith confirmed he’ll play for the Michigan State Spartans next fall.
