Big inning lifts Hillbillys to win

HYDE CREEK - Hosts overcome early 4-1 deficit to claim big win in North Vancouver Island Baseball League play.

HYDE CREEK — The Hyde Creek Hillbillys piled up 10 fourth-inning runs to erase an early deficit against the Port Hardy Cubs in last Thursday’s North Vancouver Island Baseball League game.

And they were just getting started.

Every player on the roster scored at least two runs as Hyde Creek pulled away to a 25-6 win over the Cubs and closed within a game of the league-leaders.

The Hillbillys (3-3) trailed 4-1 through three innings before their offence ignited. Their half of the fourth inning started with an out, but the next 12 batters reached base and 10 of them scored. The carnage could have been worse, but they left the bases loaded.

Each team scored twice in the fifth, and Hyde Creek scored 12 more in the sixth to put it away.

Glenn Moore reached base five times and scored twice for the winners and Ivan Hall was 4-for-5 with his second home run of the season.

Brayden Demoe reached base in all four of his plate appearances and scored twice for the Cubs (4-2).
