The Horn Goaltending Camp returns to Chilliwack this August, providing netminder training to local hockey players.

A one day ‘Quick Start’ program will run Aug. 12 at Twin Rinks for players in the Hockey 4 to atom age range.

The cost is $99.

It will include one and a half hours on the ice and one hour in a classroom discussing mental preparation and training.

“It is for those just starting out,” said the camp’s lead instructor, Bill Horn. “It is for those interested in the position and looking to get some fundamentals.”

The main camp will run Aug. 13-14 for players in peewee through juvenile.

The cost is $425.

Players will receive five hours of on-ice training and four-and-a-half hours of off-ice work including classroom, video and mental-prep training.

Sixteen local goalies attended last year’s camp and benefitted from the wealth of experience Horn brings to his instruction.

He played four years of division one NCAA hockey at Western Michigan University, earning All-American status and leaving as the school’s all-time wins leader.

He was a National Hockey League draft pick of the Hartford Whalers (now Carolina Hurricanes) who went to NHL training camps with the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres.

Horn played eight years of minor-pro hockey in the American Hockey League, backstopping the Rochester Americans to a Calder Cup final in 1992-93.

Horn even won a pair of championships in the now-defunct Roller Hockey International league.
