Blaze bash Tritons to stretch streak to nine games

No contest as Langley outscores White Rock 44-5 to sweep three game series

The Langley Blaze continue to put a licking on the baseball and any team that stands in their way.

The Blaze’s most recent victim was the White Rock Tritons, who dropped three games against their U18 baseball counterparts by an aggregate score of 44-5. Combined with a 5-2 victory last Thursday (May 2) and the Blaze have won nine straight games and vaulted into first place at 11-3 in the B.C. Premier Baseball League.

Andre Pelletier drove in four runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate and Tyler O’Neill hit his third home run of the season, one of two RBIs he had in the game, as the Blaze won 11-1 on Friday at McLeod Park.

On the mound, Kristjan Storrie went the distance, scattering four hits and one one run over six innings. He struck out five and walked just a single batter.

The Tritons led 4-2 after five innings on Saturday at South Surrey Athletic Park, in the opener of a doubleheader between the two teams.

But Langley scored five times in the sixth inning and then tacked on another three runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The Blaze won despite getting just three hits as they capitalized on four Tritons errors in the ball game to score six unearned runs.

Shoma Sasaki and Mitchell Robinson had the lone Langley RBIs. Sasaki also scored three times while Griffin Andreychuk and Luke Horanski scored twice.

Eric Broatch pitched three innings in relief to earn the win.

Langley 23 White Rock 0

The second game was no contest as the Blaze scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, cranking out 23 runs on a dozen hits. White Rock did not help their own cause as they managed just two hits — one apiece off of Cooper Misic and Marcus Blair — and committed five errors, which led to nine unearned runs.

Mike Dagg led the offensive onslaught with five RBIs while Horanski belted his first home run of the season and finished with three RBIs.

Sasaki and Pelletier also drove in two RBIs apiece, while O’Neill, Mason Cratty and Justin Lawrence drove in one run apiece.

The Blaze will look to make it 10 straight victories as they host the Coquitlam Reds on May 7 at McLeod Park in a doubleheader. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
