A long layoff did little good for the Langley Senior Blaze men’s baseball team.
Playing their first game in 16 days, the Blaze were hammered 7-1 by the visiting Burnaby Bulldogs on Wednesday (July 3) at McLeod Park.
Zach Mihic had the team’s lone RBI, driving in Scott Webster with a fourth-inning single.
That made the score 2-1 but Burnaby tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth and then sealed the victory with three runs in the seventh.
Steven Federau was tagged with the loss, surrendering four earned runs over four and two-thirds innings, He struck out a pair of batters.
The loss dropped the Blaze to 3-3 in the Pacific Metro Baseball League.
Next up for Langley is a game on July 4 versus the Coquitlam Angels. It is at 7 p.m. at McLeod Park.
