Blaze use the long ball in split with Angels

Langley senior men's baseball team goes 1-1 to open season

The Langley Senior Blaze got their baseball season underway with a split in a doubleheader against the Coquitlam Angels on Sunday at Mundy Park.

The opener went to the home side as Coquitlam prevailed 7-6 in extra innings.

The loss wasted a two home-run effort from Scott Webster, who had five of the team’s RBIs.

Jesse Peters had the other RBI.

The second game saw the Blaze offence continue its hot play as they belted out nine runs in a 9-1 rout.

The offence was led by a three-run home run from Bobby Wagner and a solo shot from Zach Mihic. They hit their home runs on consecutive at-bats in the first inning.

Peters pitched a complete game and finished with eight strikeouts.

The Blaze are in Kelowna this weekend at Elks Stadium as they face the Trail Orioles on June 1 at 4 p.m. and then the Kelowna Jays at 7 p.m.

And the next day, they have a doubleheader against Trail.
