Spotting the opposition a 3-0 lead was too big of a hurdle to overcome as the Vancouver Giants dropped a fifth consecutive game.
The Giants were at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops to face the Blazers, coming out on the wrong end of a 6-3 score in Western Hockey League action.
Coupled with a 4-1 home-ice loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night, Vancouver saw their record fall to 16-25-1-2.
The Blazers jumped ahead 1-0 less than three minutes in off a goal from Deven Sideroff. Kamloops broke the game open with goals less than two minutes apart later in the period, first off the stick of Nick Chyzowski and then Rudolfs Balcers.
Brendan Semchuk got the Giants on the board with his seventh of the season early in the second period but Joe Gatenby made it 4-1 late in the period and Gatenby added another early in the third.
Brayden Watts one of a handful new players Vancouver picked up at last week’s trade deadline, scored his first as a Giant to make it 5-2.
Watts then picked up an assist, his third point of the night, setting up Ty Ronning for his team-leading 18th to make it 5-3 with nine minutes remaining.
But any hopes of a comeback were quashed when the Blazers’ Collin Shirley scored a short-handed goal to round out the scoring.
Vancouver’s James Malm also finished with three points.
The Giants were outshot 34-28 with goaltender David Tendeck getting tagged for the loss.
Vancouver is back in action on Jan. 17 as they host the Victoria Royals at the Langley Events Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
