The L.V. Rogers boys soccer team dug themselves a hole they couldn’t climb out of at provincials.
LVR finished 13th out of 17 teams at the B.C. Secondary Schools AA Boys tournament, which was held Monday to Wednesday in Burnaby.
“The teams were all really good and it was a great learning experience for the kids,” coach Simon Liddell said in an email.
“It’s tough, five games in three days and the kids came back exhausted but satisfied with the two wins even if the result was not as good as we expected.”
The Bombers opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Vernon’s W.L. Seaton after giving up a penalty shot.
They followed that result with a 2-0 loss to Brentwood College of Mill Bay.
The team fared no better Tuesday morning with another 2-0 loss, this time to Vancouver’s Sands. The result meant LVR could finish no better than 13th.
The goals finally came, too late, that afternoon as LVR overwhelmed Vancouver’s John Oliver 4-1.
The Bombers hammered Prince Rupert’s Charles Hays 6-2 in their final game Wednesday, while St. Michaels University took the title.
Jack Mckimm won LVR’s commissioner’s award for the team’s top player during the tournament, while game MVP awards were handed out to Marco Falcone, Jesse Thurston, Juna Williams, Joan Marcos, and Jaden Dyck.
