Bowen to play in BC Cup

Chilliwack's Jason Bowen will try to impress at a showcase tournament being hosted by BC Hockey.

Chilliwack’s Jason Bowen will suit up for the Bruins at an upcoming BC Hockey showcase tournament.

The U-16 BC Cup will be played April 20-24 in Salmon Arm, bringing together some of the top teenage talent in minor hockey.

Bowen, a promising prospect with Chilliwack Minor Hockey’s bantam A1 squad, is the lone local selected.

The forward has been assigned to the 20 man roster for the Bruins, who’ll face the Flyers, Penguins, Sabres, Stars and Wild in a six-team field.

All players in the U-16 BC Cup are born in 2001.

They’ll be evaluated in the jamboree-style tourney and Bowen may be selected to attend a provincial training camp in July.

Based on performance at that camp, 20 players will be named to Team BC and will compete at the 2016 Western Branch Challenge Cup.

Presented by the Western Hockey League, the Challenge Cup is a round robin format tournament bringing together the best of the best from BC Hockey, Hockey Alberta, Saskatchewan Hockey Association and Hockey Manitoba.
