The Fraser River team rallied late in the third to take home the gold in box lacrosse at the 2016 Abbotsford BC Summer Games on Sunday.

Thompson Okanagan’s Beau Chetner and Mason Suppanz scored first in the quest for box lacrosse gold, with Fraser River’s Gabe Brocyk scoring two of his own to even the score at 2 after one period.

Beau Chetner scored again in the second followed quickly by John Black for a two goal Okanagan lead.

Fraser River’s Michael Risley replied with a goal but Ben Olsen from the Okanagan fired in another  A wicked shot injured the Okanagan goalie, Connor Ramage and he was replaced with Jordan Scherck. The teams exchanged goals with Okanaga’s Tanner Koroluk and Fraser River’s Jordy Mahal to keeping it close at 6 to 4 Okanagan after two periods.

Fraser River had the true nose for Gold scoring 4 goals in the third. The late rally by Finn Stark,Mathew Hoskins and Austen Wahl (2) gave the goldmedal to Fraser River. Final score 8 to 6 for Fraser River

Jack Wahl, coach of Fraser River admitted to underestimating the Okanagan boys. ” They are a very good and talented team” he said. “Our team is all about teamwork, no superstars, just hard work by all the guys.  We jelled as a team on and off the floor.”
