PURE Martial Arts & Fitness in Campbell River will host its Second Annual BJJ Challenge, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament for young competitors aged 6-14.
The PURE BJJ Challenge affords younger students the opportunity to have fun while increasing their confidence in preparation for higher-level competition, PURE Head Instructor Jodey Ingalls says.
Last year’s tournament was well-attended, with parents and family members on the edge of their seats.
“Jujitsu teaches him discipline, respect and teamwork,” says BJJ mom Gina Cliffe.
“My son loved last year’s BJJ Challenge – it gave him inspiration to train harder for future competitions.”
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling sport that takes place primarily on the ground.
Competitors are challenged to utilize their balance, coordination and flexibility to bring their opponent down and win a match either by application of submission techniques or by points awarded in a judge’s decision.
