Buccaneers play against Buccaneers

The Nanaimo Buccaneers junior B hockey club held an alumni game Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The Nanaimo Buccaneers have only been around for four and a half seasons, but they’ve created a proud group of alumni in that time.

The city’s junior B hockey club held an alumni game Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The benches were totally filled, as 44 players past and present participated. Current Buccaneers played alongside past Bucs on mixed lineups.

“It was a chance to say hello one more time to a great group of players that were part of the Nanaimo Buccaneers’ team for our first four seasons and a chance for some of them to meet some of our players from season five…” noted Brenda Levesque, team owner, in a press release. “This game proved once more that once a Buc, always a Buc.”

The game ended 10-6, with Chad Bell’s Team Yellow getting the better of Jordan Levesque’s Team Black.

The game raised money for the Vancouver Island Vision, a co-ed special needs hockey team that will be participating in a tournament in California this month.

GAME ON … The Bucs resume play in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League regular season this Thursday (Jan. 5) as they host the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in a 7:15 p.m. faceoff at the NIC.
