The Nanaimo Buccaneers couldn’t get the goal they needed to start the week, but scored plenty after that.
The junior B Bucs won two out of three games last week in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action. The Buccaneers lost 1-0 to the Peninsula Panthers on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, but won by identical 5-3 scores the next two nights in road wins against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings and Oceanside Generals.
In the Comox game, Cam Nickerson scored two goals and added two assists to lead his team. Cale Cripps, Trey Watson and Alex Richardson also tallied and John Hawthorne made 27 saves as his team outshot the opposition 36-30.
The next night, Chad Bell was the hero with a hat trick. Watson and Cripps also scored and goalie Cedric LeSieur stopped 16 of 17 shots he faced in relief of Hawthorne.
In the shutout loss Thursday, LeSieur tended goal as the Bucs outshot the Panthers 39-22.
