Bucs take to ice in exhibition

The Nanaimo Buccaneers play their first pre-season game this Friday (Aug. 21) against the Oceanside Generals.

The Nanaimo Buccaneers looked good at training camp, and now they’ll test themselves against a live opponent.

The city’s junior B hockey club plays its first pre-season game this Friday (Aug. 21) against the Oceanside Generals.

Buccaneers training camp put players in game situations, but the intensity will rise one more level with a divisional rival coming to the rink. Bucs coach Dan Lemmon looks forward to seeing his players show their stuff in exhibition.

“We’ve got a lot of speed up front, our defence, we’ve got some guys who play with a lot of confidence back there with the biscuit, and our goaltending was really good [at camp],” he said.

GAME ON … The Buccaneers and Generals play Friday at 7 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The Bucs also have a pre-season game Sunday against the Kerry Park Islanders, a 5:30 p.m. game. For season ticket information, please visit buccaneers.vijhl.com.
