Busy playoff weekend on tap for Juan de Fuca rep hockey teams

Find a Grizzlies youth game around Greater Victoria

The opening round of the minor hockey rep playoffs winds up this weekend at a number of different sites, with Juan de Fuca teams figuring heavily.

The midget Tier 1 JdF Grizzlies face off against the Saanich Braves at Pearkes Recreation Centre this Sunday at 3:50 p.m. The Grizz are coming off a 1-1 tie in Nanaimo and a 3-0 win over Nanaimo.

The midget Tier 2 Grizzlies are at Pearkes tonight (Feb. 5) at 7:05 p.m. to play the Braves T2 squad. Juan de Fuca lost 3-2 to Cowichan Valley following a 4-2 loss to Peninsula.

In Tier 3 play, the Grizzlies midgets won their first two games, 2-1 over Peninsula and 8-2 over Saanich. They wind up round robin play with a big game in Sooke this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

In the bantam division, the Tier 1 Grizzlies have a busy weekend, hosting Comox Valley at Juan de Fuca Arena tomorrow at 4 p.m., then travelling to Nanaimo for a Sunday game. The Grizzlies won their first game 5-0 over Victoria Racquet Club.

Tier 2 bantam action sees Juan de Fuca host Peninsula at the JdF Arena tonight at 6:45 p.m., then head up the road to Chemainus for a Sunday game at Fuller Lake Arena against Cowichan Valley at 4:10 p.m. The Grizzlies dropped their opener 3-0 to Saanich last Sunday.

Tier 3 play sees the Grizzlies play back to back games, hosting Kerry Park on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at JdF, then winding up round robin play with a Sunday game in North Saanich against Peninsula. Game 1 saw the Grizz tie Saanich 3-3.

The Tier 1 Juan de Fuca pee wee team heads into this weekend’s play having tied Racquet Club 4-4 in their opener. The Grizzlies host Comox Valley on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at Westhills Arena, then travel to Nanaimo for a game Sunday.

In Tier 2 south play, the 1-3 Grizzlies hit the road to play Racquet Club on Saturday. Juan de Fuca opened round robin play with a 5-0 win over Peninsula, but have lost consecutive games to Victoria, Saanich and Cowichan Valley.

Tier 3 south playoff action this weekend sees the pee wee Grizzlies play Kerry Park in Mill Bay on Saturday, then host Peninsula at JdF at 8:45 a.m. Sunday. The Grizz lost 5-0 to Sooke in their opener.
