Butcher scores lone goal in Rivermen loss

Langley goes 1-1 at BCHL Bauer Showcase last week in Chilliwack

Ben Butcher had the lone goal as the Langley Rivermen dropped a 4-1 decision to the West Kelowna Warriors to wrap up the BCHL Bauer Showcase on Sunday night.

The Rivermen had won their other game at the event — which is held at Chilliwack’s Prospera Centre — 3-2 over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Thursday afternoon.

Defenceman William Campion scored twice in that contest — including the winner with less than two minutes to play — while Justin Fregona tallied his team-leading fifth of the junior A hockey season.

Nick Trenciansky stopped 25 shots in his first BCHL start. He was also in goal against the Warriors, stopping 26 of the 29 shots he faced.

The Rivermen close the month of September with a record of 3-2-0-0.

The open October with a home-and-home series against the Chilliwack Chiefs, starting Friday night (7:15 p.m.) at the Langley Events Centre. And after playing in Chilliwack on Saturday, the Rivermen close the weekend with a Sunday matinee (3 p.m.) versus the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
