Bryana Buttar of Abbotsford helped the Canadian under-15 girls soccer team to the gold medal at the inaugural CONCACAF U15 Championship in the Cayman Islands.

Team Canada met Haiti in the final, both teams coming in with undefeated records. Haiti took the lead in the 37th minute, but Canada’s Sarah Startigakis tied it up with less than six minutes remaining in regulation.

It took a penalty shootout to decide matters, which Canada won 4-1 behind a standout performance from goalie Lysianne Proulx.

Buttar, a 13-year-old centre back, started every game for Canada at the CONCACAF tourney – an impressive accomplishment for a player who’s two years younger than the upper age limit.
