The Comox Valley Cardinals were not only in the zone, they owned the zone.

That was the story at Aspen Park on the weekend as the Cards hosted, and won, the 2011 Vancouver Island PeeWee AA Zone baseball championship.

The locals dominated the four-team competition, defeating Oceanside Reds 16-0, Duncan Red Sox 13-1 and Nanaimo Pirates 10-3. They, along with second-place Oceanside, have advanced to the 10-team Provincials this weekend (July 28-31) in Surrey.

The Cards are in Pool B along with Kelowna, Burnaby, Abbotsford and North Delta. They opened play Thursday against Abbotsford, with result unavailable at press time.

Fans can follow the action at www.bcminorbaseball.org; click on the Provincials link on the left side and enter PeeWee AA.
