The University of the Fraser Valley women’s soccer team wrapped up the preseason with a 1-1 draw against the UBC-Okanagan Heat on Saturday at Exhibition Field in Chilliwack.
The Cascades posted a 2-3-2 record during the exhibition portion of the schedule, and they open the Canada West regular season on Friday against the Mount Royal Cougars (5 p.m., Exhibition Field).
Third-year striker Carly Neeson supplied the UFV goal in the 22nd minute, while Kirsten Dodds equalized for the Heat in the 64th. Veteran keeper Chantelle Biagioni and rookie Kayla Klim shared the goaltending chores for the Cascades, who out-shot UBC-O 22-7 for the game.
“Carly Neeson had her best performance of the preseason; she was lively and assertive in attacking and scored a fantastic goal,” Cascades head coach Rob Giesbrecht said.
“I felt we responded well to getting scored on and had a number of high quality scoring chances to regain our lead. However, our inability to finish prevented us from doing so.
“We have a bright future and for us to accomplish our goals this season we need to be more consistent and improve our finishing.”
