The University of the Fraser Valley men’s and women’s basketball teams are co-hosting the Honda Way Classic, a preseason tournament, this weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre.
The Cascades women play a pair of fellow Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) programs – they take on the UBC-Okanagan Heat at 5 p.m. on Friday, and the Brock Badgers of St. Catharines, Ont. at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The UFV men host a pair of PacWest college squads – the Capilano Blues (Friday, 7 p.m.) and the Langara Falcons (Saturday, 6 p.m.).
This is the third annual edition of the Honda Way tourney, but the first year that the women’s team has been involved. Head coach Al Tuchscherer said it’s a positive for his squad.
“It’s fantastic to get some CIS games at home, and to put it under the Honda Way umbrella is neat,” he said. “It’s something we can build on. I think it can become a cool annual thing for us.”
