The University of the Fraser Valley men’s basketball team opens its preseason schedule this Sunday, Aug. 17, against the NCAA’s University of Detroit Mercy Titans.
The game tips off at 3 p.m. at the Envision Athletic Centre, and admission is free.
The Cascades, who finished last season fourth in the Canada West conference and ranked top 10 nationally, are an even mix of veteran talent and new faces. They are led by returning stars Kevon Parchment and Jasper Moedt, who combined for an average of 31.6 points per game last season.
Supporting this dynamic duo are American transfers Dominic Brooks and Nate Brown, as well as former redshirts Vijay Dhillon and Nav Bains. Head coach Adam Friesen is entering his third year at the helm of the program.
The Titans are an NCAA Div. 1 program, and compete in the Horizon League. They are currently in the midst of a nine-day trip to B.C. during which they will play four games against Canadian opponents (Quest, UBC, UFV and Trinity Western).
In 2012 the Titans qualified for the NCAA “March Madness” tournament, losing to the eventual runners-up, the Kansas Jayhawks, in the first round.
