The University of the Fraser Valley men’s basketball team gave the Eastern Washington University Eagles a run for their money on Monday, ultimately falling 84-79 in exhibition action at the Envision Athletic Centre.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Nathan Kendall and Manny Dulay pulled the Cascades with within one point (75-74) with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but the NCAA Div. I visitors responded with a 9-3 run to seal a hard-fought victory.

UFV sophomore guard Jordan Blackman had a monster game, scoring a team-high 30 points as the Cascades demonstrated they’ve made major strides since falling 96-56 to Cal State Northridge in their preseason opener on Aug. 25.

“Jordan showed great leadership tonight,” said coach Adam Friesen. “With three starters not dressed he stepped up and played a great game.”

Dulay added 12 points for UFV while Andy Khaira chipped in with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Venky Jois paced the Eagles with 18 points.

The Cascades’ annual alumni game is set for Sept. 29 at the EAC at 7:30 p.m.
